How We Picked These Four Packs
The four finalists come from the current-generation backpack evidence base, cross-checked against dated sources: OutdoorGearLab's 13-pack backpack test (Nov 2025), CleverHiker's multi-day pack roundup, and Treeline Review's lightweight crossover tests. Every weight listed is either the manufacturer spec or a dated independent measurement, and this post says which is which. Prices were checked against live retail on 2026-08-27 and on Amazon on 2026-09-04. Packs are compared on fit, carried load, ventilation, and price rather than on a single score, and no claim here comes from hands-on trail time.
Fit Comes First: Torso and Hipbelt by Pack
A pack only carries well when the frame matches your torso and the belt sits on your hips, not your waist. The Atmos AG 65 runs three torso spans, S/M, M/L, and L/XL (17-20, 18-22, and 21-23 in). The Atmos AG LT 65 comes in two spans, S/M and L/XL, so mid-torso buyers should get measured before ordering. The Gregory Paragon 60 uses an adjustable torso with the FreeFloat hipbelt, the easiest of the four to fine-tune at home. The Mariposa 60 covers three fixed sizes, S/M/L, and its hipbelt removes.
